Line of Duty Confirmed for 7th Series on the British Broadcaster
The beloved police drama Line of Duty will make a comeback for its 7th installment, announced by the broadcaster.
A brand new six-episode series created by the show's creator starts production in Belfast this spring, according to the network.
Vicky McClure expressed excitement about the comeback, stating she was "thrilled" about the series' return. Her co-star remarked, "How wonderful it is to know that the Three Amigos will be back filming together next year."
The last series wrapped up in recent years with a finale that attracted more than 17 million audience members. Rumors about a new season have been widespread for some time, but confirmation only arrived recently.
New Challenges for The Team
The seventh season begins with AC-12 having been disbanded and rebranded as the Inspectorate of Police Standards, according to the announcement.
Martin Compston's character, Vicky McClure's role, and Ted Hastings remain tasked to combat corruption within the police force.
The team's mission "has never been more difficult", and in this climate, the trio will take on their "most sensitive case so far."
Fresh Face and Intricate Plot
A new character, Det Insp Dominic Gough, portrayed as a charming officer celebrated for busts of organized crime, is accused of abusing his position to become a sexual predator.
However, his case could be a deliberate distraction from a bigger threat still operating in the shadows, plot details hinted.
Speaking about the renewal, Jed Mercurio said: "Everyone involved are deeply thankful to the dedicated viewers."
"We're privileged to have had countless followers watch the ups and downs of the unit over multiple series and we are thrilled to be coming back for a seventh season."
Mercurio continued: "Misconduct in the UK is supposed to have ended while the series was not airing, so I've been forced to use my imagination."
Cast Reactions
Martin Compston called appearing in the police drama as "a job of a lifetime".
"Not only the show's success but the colleagues I've collaborated with I now call some of my closest friends."
"I'm excited to pull the waistcoat on again and reunite with everyone," he said.
Vicky McClure remarked: "Obviously I'm so excited the show is back! Can't wait to work with Jed, Martin and Dunbar again. Belfast, we'll be there shortly!"
Adrian Dunbar commented: "While anticipating the AC-12 return, what a joy it is to know that the Three Amigos will be working together next year."
"Pleased with the news and looking forward to those unexpected plot developments."
Series Legacy
The drama premiered in 2012 and evolved into a highly successful television series of the last decade, featuring guest stars such as Lennie James.
The BBC haven't revealed when the new season will hit screens.
The conclusion of season six drew the long-running storyline about the search for criminal mastermind known as "the mysterious H" to a close, and producers said at the time there were no plans for further series.
Nevertheless, the network announced on this week that a seventh series is now being produced.
