Los Angeles Faces Unprecedented High Temperatures Just Days Following Severe Winter Storm.
Following a week of torrential rains that resulted in floodwaters across areas in the city, LA is now seeing abnormally warm weather for the end of February.
Record-Setting Heat
On Friday midday, the thermometer soared to ninety-one degrees Fahrenheit in downtown Los Angeles, as reported by meteorologists. This breaks the prior high for February 27th, which was 31 degrees Celsius (88 Fahrenheit) and was set in the previous year.
"Very warm conditions" were noted on official charts for the region.
Safety Alerts
Authorities cautioned that Friday's conditions posed an "increased danger for heat illness" for people sensitive to heat. Their guidance featured:
- Drinking plenty of fluids.
- Reducing outdoor activities during the hottest part of the day.
- Never leaving children or pets unattended in a car.
An Extreme Weather Swing
This sharp rise in temperature comes on the heels of a powerful storm system that battered the area earlier in the week. That event brought high winds, thunderstorms, and significant snowfall to higher elevations, triggering evacuation orders for millions residents.

Temperatures Easing
Looking ahead a cooldown is coming. Temperatures were predicted to fall to around sixty-one degrees Fahrenheit in downtown LA by late Friday.
Additional areas that experienced 90°F featured Woodland Hills, Long Beach, and Burbank. Additionally, Westwood, Camarillo, Santa Maria, and Oxnard were expected to see the high 80s.
In the coming days, central Los Angeles can see readings in the 80s, with a further cooldown expected for the following week.
