Shock as Popular South African DJ Gunned Down in the City of Johannesburg.
A prominent South African radio and club DJ has been shot dead in the metropolis of Johannesburg, sending shockwaves across a country grappling with persistent crime.
Warrick Stock, who went by the name DJ Warras, was shot and killed in the downtown area on Tuesday afternoon.
Authorities reported the forty-year-old media personality was accosted by a trio of assailants, with one opened fire on him before fleeing on foot.
The purpose behind the shooting remains unclear and no arrests have taken place, as per the official statement.
The Fatal Incident
Authorities indicated that Stock was targeted as he was leaving a premises in the vicinity of the city center landmark.
He had spent several hours at the site supervising the setup of security systems, which had been controversially occupied by unidentified individuals, it was reported.
"It is alleged the man was approached by three unidentified men after parking his vehicle, and they opened fire at him before escaping on foot," an official report said.
Surveillance tape reportedly depicted a suspect with dreadlocked hair and clad in what looked like a guard's attire opening fire on Stock before fleeing.
The DJ tried to run away after he was hit but succumbed to his injuries a short distance away.
Officials noted that Stock had an weapon on his person and nothing was taken during the incident.
