Slot Insists He Is Safe and Has The Club's Support After PSV Eindhoven Loss
Arne Slot conceded that it was expected for concerns to be asked about his position following another convincing defeat against PSV Eindhoven.
Liverpool suffered their ninth defeat in twelve games, representing the team's poorest run after being demoted in 1953-54.
They were dominated by the Dutch league champions on a punishing evening at their home ground.
“I'm confident, I'm fine, I have got significant backing from above,” Slot remarked.
“It would be great to change things and earn three points naturally but when you're in a managerial role and underperforming then it's typical that doubts arise.”
He continued, “I accept my situation. It is not the initial instance I’ve been in a difficult position but it is about time that we changed our fortunes.”
Conversations with Liverpool Hierarchy
Upon being questioned to expand on his discussions with the Liverpool hierarchy, the head coach said:
“We communicate frequently. They are helpful to the team and to me and we discuss these matters but they don't phone me every single minute of the day to say they trust me.”
He mentioned, “During our regular discussions I sense the trust. But I've not talked to them since this defeat so far so it remains to be seen.”
Familiar Issues and Squad Response
Slot lamented familiar shortcomings from his Liverpool side in their Champions League loss, namely poor finishing and leaking goals.
Meanwhile, midfielder Jones was blunter in his evaluation of the team's situation.
“I don’t have the answers. Truthfully, I don’t. I'm telling that to everybody,” the midfielder remarked.
“It is not good enough. I don't have to wait to reflect. I'm beyond being angry internally. I've reached the stage now where I simply lack the vocabulary.”
He continued, “It's difficult because I’m playing for the team I support. I'm a supporter, and I’ve seen Liverpool for years.”
“In a long, long time, I've not seen a Reds side enduring a spell like this with performances like these.”
He concluded, “But we still have that badge on our chest. And as long as it is taken away, we will always battle.”
“We’re going to try to bring this squad return to where it needs to be, show everyone again the values of this club and why it's known as the top club in the planet.”
“At this moment, we're in trouble and we have to turn it around.”
