The Latest Relaxed Playlist Ignites Intense Discussions Regarding AI Players, Experience Points, and Wait Times
Over the weekend, Battlefield Studios introduced a fresh game mode called Relaxed Breakthrough. In essence, this option mirrors the regular Breakthrough format but includes a few notable adjustments:
- Each team includes just eight human participants, with the rest made up of AI-controlled opponents.
- Activities done by human gamers award full XP, while bot actions provide reduced XP.
- Just a pair of locations can be played: Siege of Cairo and Empire State map.
- Features like Dogtags, achievements, and stat tracking have been turned off.
In short, this mode lives up to its name: it offers a casual take of Breakthrough. On the surface, you might think there's nothing wrong, since it gives more options for players seeking different methods to enjoy the title. But, gaming history has shown one thing, it's that you can't please everyone. In other words, a lot of BF6 fans are upset.
Player Responses: From Fury to Support
"Gamers prefer real players. Don't repeat the mistakes of your competitors," reads one reply to the mode reveal. "Absolutely shocking idea," comments another. Meanwhile, on the Battlefield subreddit, one user remarks, "It's unclear where we are going with this game," while someone else details everything they consider to be broken in the game: "Fix bugs, fix drone glitch, correct rocket mechanics, adjust aiming after sprinting, fix awful hit registration. We do not require this AI-heavy playlist."
However, for every complaint, there are players sharing how much they're liking the recent addition. "It's very fun to practice, real players keep it from being a complete grind but it's quite laid-back," says one Reddit comment. "The community fails to see that there are gamers who actually go outside and can't play this title 24/7. Let them find a middle ground," states another. One reply on Twitter explains that as they're "a battledad with limited time, this is perfect for me," and someone else praises the mode for "not being overcompetitive."
Constructive Concerns and Player Feedback
Despite the support, there are constructive reasons to criticize the new mode. Some users have highlighted that it will make wait times more extended for different playlists due to the large amount of playlists in the game already. On a similar note, some areas already encounter mostly bots in the current modes. It also seems somewhat counterintuitive that the mode does not begin without a minimum number of human gamers, even though it primarily centers on fighting AI opponents.
Finally, one of the biggest complaints is that a previous feature was promised to provide full XP, including AI matches, but that was removed when they tried to eliminate XP farming from the mode. Thus Casual Breakthrough feels like the player base compromising in the middle, as per a Reddit comment. Another labels this addition as the developers "making a mistake significantly, I had great enjoyment in the first couple of days, what prompted them to adjust it?"
Looking Ahead: Adjustments Be Made?
Should Battlefield Studios has proven anything so far with the latest installment, it is that they're paying attention and acting on feedback. Tasks being too difficult got fixed very quickly, just like the required Redsec challenges. Chances are that, should analytics shows this new playlist isn't performing to their expectations, they will not hesitate to make further modifications.
