The Showrunner Reveals He Has an Idea of How The Apple TV+ Show Might Finish... For Now.

The acclaimed writer-producer could not have predicted that the Apple TV+ show would emerge as a breakout success. “I am so grateful to the audience,” he states. “I did not foresee the show being as widely discussed as it is, and it makes me deliriously happy.”

With the first season of the acclaimed sci-fi show coming to an end—and a second season already in development—the writers' room recently discussed the audience reaction and whether it will impact the storyline of Pluribus.

Regarding the Incredible Fan Response

Anyone might to get distracted by the widespread acclaim and online debates surrounding Pluribus. The creator is making a conscious effort to ignore the noise.

“It's like being force fed your favorite dessert and being tickled to death,” he explains. “It's the greatest thing, but I get wind of it anecdotally, and that's by design. Not once have I Googled myself, nor do I ever plan to. It's quite the opposite. It's a rabbit hole I know I would fall into and then I'd be living in squalor from the hardware store and I'd be stuck in my living room.”

Regardless of Gilligan’s best intentions, there’s no escaping the extremely enthusiastic response to the series. The only approach for the writers is to acknowledge it humbly and try not to let it dictate the story of the show.

“We make no attempt to change the plot,” says Alison Tatlock. “The plot we develop is not changed by online forums.”

“It's wiser to keep our noses to the grindstone,” Gilligan adds.

The Big Question: Has the showrunner See the Finale of Pluribus?

Given that the writers are not listening by fan response, does it imply they have mapped out how Pluribus will finally conclude? Essentially yes… in a way.

“We have some potential directions about where the show might end up,” Gilligan reveals. “but we are always ready to abandon a solid concept for a more brilliant plan. That philosophy has guided us in good stead on Better Call Saul and on Breaking Bad even before that. We throw stuff out when we conceive of something superior and I suspect we'll be doing that.”

On the other hand, if all else fails, Gordon Smith has a humorous idea to use as a backup.

“My recurring proposal is that it's all in a snow globe, and that we'll reveal the snow globe and that's where they've been all along,” Smith jokes, “but no one is buying it.”

Then again, one could always use the classics?

“I'd love for Carol to awaken beside Bob Newhart,” he jokes.

Pluribus can be watched on Apple TV.
