UK Ready to Utilize Frozen Russia's Assets to Support Ukraine's Military Campaign
The UK is prepared to move forward with using the total value of seized Russia's assets to support the Ukrainian defense operations, Leader Sir Keir Starmer has stated.
In a collective announcement, the leaders of the UK, the French Republic, and Germany stated that this joint measure would increase strain on Moscow's head Vladimir Putin and urge Russia to come to the table.
They added that the decision would be executed in close cooperation with the US.
British restrictions have frozen more than £25bn of Russia's assets since the Russian government initiated its comprehensive attack against the Ukrainian nation in 2022. However, until now, money sent to the Ukrainian government using Russian assets had only been taken from gains and dividends generated on them.
Sir Keir told President Volodymyr Zelensky that the United Kingdom, the French Republic, and Germany were united in their aim to drive progress toward using the full value of the frozen Moscow's national assets to conclude the conflict.
He added that further sanctions soon would increase the strain on Moscow.
This statement comes after EU representatives met in the Danish capital recently to consider using seized Russia's assets for a €140bn financial aid to Ukraine.
In the previous month, President Donald Trump encouraged G7 allies to take or otherwise use immobilized Russia's holdings, as reported by news outlets.
The value of immobilized Russian holdings in the Europe is estimated to be approximately €211bn.
President Zelensky encourages UK's Sir Keir Starmer to join the Purl program
Russia executed extensive aerial attacks all over Ukraine on that day, leading to blackouts in many areas of Kyiv, the city, and multiple additional areas.
A pair of individuals were killed and no fewer than 20 people were wounded in the assault, authorities in Ukraine said.
In a update on social media after the incident, Zelensky wrote that the premeditated assault targeted civilian and energy infrastructure.
"What is required is not just talk but concrete steps - from the US, Europe, and the seven nations - in supplying defense mechanisms and implementing restrictions," he emphasized.
"All penalty impositions undermines Moscow's military apparatus," Zelensky declared, in a additional update.
In the same period, Zelensky informed the press he would urge Sir Keir to participate in the Purl programme, under which alliance members buy military equipment from the US to donate to the Ukrainian forces.
While applauding the United Kingdom's consistent assistance for Kyiv, he noted it should indicate firmly that it would engage in the program, as well as apply additional measures on the Russian Federation.
